End of Year letter

Dear Parents and Carers,

It seems that every summer I look back and the months have gone more quickly than the months of the previous year. This year, with so many events and activities, the time has gone faster than ever.

The sunshine and the World Cup gave us lots to talk about this summer but even more significant were the amazing successes that we have had at Stroud Green. We began a winning theme with our Gold Award from the Children’s Gardening Group for the garden in the Early Years and Hideaway. We followed this success with first prize at the Enterprise Challenge. This allowed six of our Year 6 to compete against other schools on a business challenge. The team was confident and practical. Football was next when Year 3 and Year 4 provided a team who beat thirty-one other schools for the Tottenham Hotspur World Cup Challenge. Just when we thought that was over, we managed to take first place in the Hornsey Rounders Tournament. I would like to congratulate the children and adults involved. Of course, we teach our children that it the point is taking part and not winning but we enjoyed the success and the commitment of our children.

We look forward to the new term and some changes to the calendar. We will be welcoming parents to “Meet the Teacher” sessions where you can find out what the expectations are for the year for your child’s group. We will continue with a full programme of trips and visitors and we have got some exciting ideas about new clubs launching in the autumn.

This is the time of year when we say goodbye to staff and children. We wish luck to all of Year 6 and to the other children moving and going to school in other areas. David Ashaolu, Bianca Knot and Paul Chambers will be leaving us after working here at Stroud Green this year. Jaime Geer will be with us full time in Year 3. To the staff team, we welcome Mollie Weston, who will provide cover support and one to one tuition. Mollie is also a music specialist and will be adding her energies to our wonderful music tradition. Alan Harry will be offering mathematics support in Year 6 and running a Basketball Club after school.

We are looking forward to many exciting opportunities in the year to come. Enjoy the summer with your children and join us again when school opens on Thursday, 2nd September, 2010.

Yours sincerely,

Denise Sewell

Power Cut, May 28th

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your co-operation when we closed the school on Friday, May 28, because of a power cut.

Some of you have wondered why we were unable to open on that day. When the power goes off, we lose telephone lines; light and heat, which are significant features in winter and most importantly, all the alarms are deactivated and we do not have alarms messages around the building in the case of fire. If any of these features are missing, then we are not fulfilling our duty in terms of health and safety.

Unfortunately, when there are such cuts, it is impossible for EDF energy to predict how long it will take before we are reconnected.

I hope that makes it clearer for you.

Ms Sewell

3.15 pm, 4th March 2010 – Book Swap in conjuction with the Big Brew

Just to remind you all of the Book Swap tomorrow in conjuction with the Big Brew.
It will be in the Lower Hall and it would be great to see lots of books your children have read and loved being swapped around.
The school would also love any donations of books as well.
There will be Fairtrade goodies and if anyone would like to bake a few cakes to go with the tea, that would be fantastic. Just drop them at the office in the morning.
Also if anyone could help out for a bit in the afternoon with the book swap, please let me or Jill know or just turn up. Thanks.

Lynne Eva
